Oh my!! If anyone is in the area, this is a MUST!!!

Adventure Dog Workshop in Vail, Colorado,August 21-22.

Outside Magazine is sponsoring this event, so cost is only $25! Seminar will cover some fun stuff like stream crossing, steadiness, nutrition tips, hiking, biking, and more!

I wish we were closer!! Mike Stewart, Wildrose Kennels, and Grayson Shaeffer, Sr Editor of Outdoor Magazine, will be leading the workshop. Mike says they will be doing Adventure Dog stuff but DAD people could come and learn some "useful activities" for their DADs. The seminar will be all day Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22.

Of course there will be plenty of work on obedience, too :)

If you are interested, call Cathy Stewart at 662-234-5788.

if you are planning to attend an upcoming workshop, please commit as soon as possible. Space is limited at all workshops. Typically, there is a tendancy to wait til the last minute to sign up for an event like this. Please do not wait.

The Wildrose workshops will be limited to fewer people this May and July, so if you wait until the last minute, there might not be any openings :(

The workshop in California will fill up very quickly, too, since Rita likes make sure there is a good ratio of trainers to teams.

once again, the dates are:
ClickinCanines; Rita Martinez; Pacifica, California : March 27-28

Wildrose Kennels, Oxford, Mississippi, May 1-2

Wildrose Kennels, Buena Vista, Colorado, July 9-10

I think EVERY DAD team ought to attend at least (1) "continuing education" event per year and that attending an event like this ought to be prerequisite to acquiring a diabetic alert dog.

I also think it is a TON OF FUN to meet teams from the forum! (:D
hope to see you there!

I have read everything maybe three times until I finally decided to print out the great tips so that I can go over it again and again.I do have another question though, is anybody aloud to attend the workshops at Wildrose no matter how old the training dog or puppy is.And is it helpful no matter how the DAD was trained meaning , self trained, clicker trained, ect...

WHEW!
The Conference is over and I have *almost* recovered. :)

I'm not even sure where to begin . . . it was a truly WONDERFUL event. (for the most part, even the weather was wonderful ;)) It was so good to meet so many DAD teams and see some great dogs at work!!!

MinnesotaAnn was there with Lilly and I LOVE that dog!! oh my goodness - 1,000 kudos to you, Ann, for being so dilligent and persistent in her training! She has the most poised, elegant alert. I was certain that if she could speak, she would have been uttering some polite and stately french phrase to you each time she alerted!! It was so good to meet you and Diane and Brody face-to-face and to see how great y'alls dogs are looking - sooooo solid, confident and well mannered. Y'all both have much to be proud of -
Alan and Ida, we missed y'all LOTS !!! It was a stupendous event!!!

The weekend was packed: well organized and well attended! lots of info in a little bit of time. I think that needs of teams at various levels were addressed and that everyone learned something.

Mike and Cathy deserve our gratitude for hosting such an event.

November 28-29. Open to ALL TEAMS and future teams.

If you are looking for info on diabetic alert dogs, this is a super place to start: you will have the ability to learn different training philosophies, review ADA laws, get a realistic picture of what life is like with a service dog, and ASK QUESTIONS to working teams and trainers.

If you currently have a DAD, this is a great chance to work your dog alongside other teams, troubleshoot issues with your dog, get individual assitance in various areas, and learn new skills.

The conference will be held at Wildrose Kennels, Oxford, Mississippi. Mike Stewart is organizing different ''training centers" - each team will rotate thru these 'training centers' throughout the 2 day conference to receive individual assistance in each area.

Cost of the weekend for a current team: $300 (includes meals) ; cost for an 'auditor' (not bringing a dog) : $150
$50 registration fee is required to hold your spot
