Cherice what are you doing up at 3:54 am? ::o Its nice to have somewhere to go online at any hour though. Has Deanna made liver treats yet? I'd give you the peanutbutter recipe I made for Coop but it smells like peanutbutter. Maliasmama I have a quick question how long will it take to train your new puppy. Will your daughter be without a DAD? Should we start training a new dog as the older one gets less accurate?

building confidence using distractions (no replies)

yeah, you can use anything really you just have to practice and see what distracts them and helps them relax. it's more also to help them make a positive association with a scary surrounding. LIke nick got a little protectice if mae and i went out at night and a man wascoming at us. not a horrible thing but def not nice when you are about to go into a store or in chucky cheese's! he barked at this guy once. the firs ttime he ever did that. so we made him sit outside of the store for a half hour and watch people/men walk in and out of hte store and we had the peanut butter on a stick and did watch me and made him sit in a down and with him it's just a few minutes and then he knows ok this is all ok. we wanted him to know that men are not bad, that the store was a safe place and that his girl is ok. he had never done that so i was shocked. we found out later he is probably nearsighted nad his hearing is not great with his allergies so he is having a hard time discerning situations now. that's why he's just a mobility companion at home now for my dad who is diabled. he can work but he doesn't have to stress about anything either. it's hard for dogs with bad allergies if they can't hear and their nose is off. they use their nose to recongnize people and access thier surroundings. when his allergies are in check he does fine but when they are not he has gotten more protective of his people. but there is so much he can do still!

difficult outings: church (2 replies)

We took Remi to church for the 1st time on Sunday. He has been going to Sunday School and Wed night youth and doing great with all the noise and activity but not to the service. Lee and I had to keep him with us bc Deanna had to do something with the high school group where there were too many people in a small space. Anyway lots of people were looking doubtfully at us as they were coming in and sitting down. I thought Remi would show them! Well, he showed me!! He was so bad! He would not sit or lay down on command and I had to keep ahold of his leash because he kept trying to run down the isle and he would whine loudly. I ended up having to leave about 15 min after the sermon started. We had to sit the rest of the time in the foyer with him. If I could have killed him right there I would have! I was SOOO embarrassed! I was so disappointed in Remi. Deanna works everyday with him and I have spent so much money taking him to the trainer every week on top of what I paid for him!! I just feel like it hopeless sometimes! Is it ever going to get better!!??

I have had my diabetic alert dog home with me for a month. In that time she has never told me that
she needs to go out. I take her out periodically when I think she might need to go but she will still poop
all over the house. The dog is supposedly already house broken by the professional trainer. So if she was
trained previously how do I get her to tell me she needs to go outside?
